What is Osteopathy?

Cranial Osteopathy Osteopathy is a manual therapy based on the anatomy and physiology of how the body should function. If the structures of the body are not functioning properly this can lead to pain, stiffness and even illness. We aim to restore maximum whole body health by treating those underlying structures causing your complaint. By getting to the root of the problem we aim to give lasting effects.

What is Cranial Osteopathy?

Cranial Osteopathy Cranial Osteopathy is a very gentle, yet powerful, system of osteopathic medicine working on the "involuntary motion" in the body. Involuntary motion is the normal motion of all body tissues to allow healthy function and allow the body to accommodate external stresses. Osteopaths assess this motion and treat any perceived blocks, for example those caused by trauma and illness. In babies, the birth process, growth spurts, and fevers can also cause problems. Osteopaths may focus on the head and low back, but can assess and treat from any part of the body.

What to expect

The initial consultation is 1 hour and includes a detailed case-history, and a series of structural and clinical investigations which will take into account any recognised medical complaints. Please note that you may be asked to partially undress: gowns are available if required. Treatment will be offered if appropriate, and is specific to each patient.

Treatment is undertaken only if judged beneficial, and may include:

  • joint articulation and manipulation
  • gentle stretches and releases
  • cranial osteopathy
  • lymphatic drainage and visceral techniques
  • advice on exercises and management
